There’s never been a better time to be a Mac gamer. No matter what type of game you’re into, you’ve got more options than ever to pick from.
Mac gaming has come a long way in just the past few years. While the Mac felt left behind for so many years in gaming, there’s a healthy and growing library available to Apple lovers today.
So, if you’re a Mac gamer, here are six games you have to check out in 2022.
1. Civilization VI
Ever since the first Civilization launched in 1991, the Civilization series has been the king of strategy games. The latest entry in the long-running series keeps its basic formula the same: pick a civilization and guide your people from humble hunter-gatherers all the way to the space age.
If you’re a history buff, you’re going to love being able to play as legendary leaders from history like Alexander the Great and Ghenghis Khan. But there are also some great lesser-known leaders thrown in the mix like Pedro II of Brazil or Mvemba A Nzinga of Kongo.
If you end up catching the Civ bug, the game also has two major expansion packs available, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm. Both add new civilizations, leaders, and gameplay elements to keep things fresh and interesting.

2. Hades
Hades is the latest adventure from developer Supergiant Games, who brought us highly acclaimed titles like Bastion and Transistor. This top-down action-adventure puts you in the shoes (or sandals) of Zagreus, the son of Hades, god of the underworld.
As Zagreus, your main goal is to escape the depths of the underworld and make it to the much sunnier skies of Mount Olympus. But that’s easier said than done. Hades’ gameplay revolves around quick action and combos. You’ll run, slash, dodge all manner of foes in your journey through the underworld.
Hades is part of the rogue-like genre of games, meaning that you will die a lot. It’s all part of the fun, though. Each run through the underworld gives Zagreus new powers and abilities to help you get farther in your quest.
Better yet, there’s a great supporting cast of characters to keep you company throughout your journey. All of them are well written and voice acted, adding great atmosphere to this mythological slasher.

3. Fortnite
Fortnite has become one of the most popular games ever made over the last few years and played a huge part in starting the battle royale craze.
On the surface, it seems deceptively simple; gameplay revolves around jumping out of an airship, picking a landing site, and fighting ’till the last man standing. But it’s deeper than it looks.
In Fortnite, you’ll not only be fighting, but harvesting materials, teaming up with other players, and building structures on the fly to help you reach victory. Not only is Fortnite’s gameplay incredibly addicting, but there’s a ton of skins, cosmetics, and emotes to collect.
Besides being an extremely popular game, Fornite has become a pop culture phenomenon. Celebrities often appear in huge in-game events multiple times a year. Top-name music artists like Marshmello and Travis Scott have had their own events and virtual concerts within the game.

4. Divinity: Original Sin 2
If you’re a fan of old-school RPGs and you’re looking for your next fantasy adventure, Divinity: Original Sin 2 might be what you’ve been looking for.
Taking inspiration from classic role-playing games like Baldur’s Gate, Divinity: Original Sin 2 transports you to Rivellon, a fantasy world full of magic, creatures, and adventure. In Divinity, you have the power to make your character your own.
After setting everything up, you’ll team up with a band of adventurers and face all manner of creatures throughout your mythical journey. Better yet, you don’t have to do it alone. Divinity: Original Sin 2 supports up to a four-player co-op experience, meaning you can bring your friends along for the ride.

5. Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the stunning conclusion to the recent Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, and it feels right at home on Mac.
You’ll be thrust into Lara Croft’s shoes once again. This time, she’s headed into the heart of the Amazon rainforest as she tries to stop a Mayan apocalypse prophecy from coming true. Throughout the adventure, you’ll uncover ancient cities, help people in dire need, and fight mercenaries as you progress through the jungle.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider not only has a great premise but also packs some incredible visuals. You’ll see leaves swaying in the wind, stunning vistas, and atmospheric ruins. It’s a great backdrop for when bullets fly during heart-pounding action sequences.
Whether you’re a long-time Tomb Raider fan or not, if you love globetrotting adventures full of action and discovery, give Shadow of the Tomb Raider a shot.

6. Life Is Strange 2
Life is Strange 2 came out as a five-part series of choice-based role-playing adventures. It’s less of a traditional game and more of an interactive movie. And you can find all five episodes bundled together on Mac.
In Life is Strange 2, you’ll follow Sean Diaz and his brother Daniel as they flee traumatic events from their past. As the story progresses, Daniel starts to develop strange powers that change the brothers’ journey.
As you progress through the game, you’ll meet a wide range of characters with different motivations, and you’ll shape the narrative as you go. Your choices will not only have immediate consequences but also send out rippling effects all the way to the game’s conclusion.
